    • Domaine Matha, an immersion in the heart of the AOC Marcillac in Aveyron

Love is one thing, passion is another. Working on his estate with a benevolent outlook, Jean-Luc Matha combines the two with an inexhaustible energy that encourages him to always give the best of himself to reveal the unique flavors of an exceptional terroir. For 3 decades, this winemaker has been telling a story through "a man's wine who rolls his Rs", the culture and origin of a wine from the red earth of the Marcillac valley.

Domaine Matha, the story of a sublime heritage

It is between Conques and Rodez, in Bruéjouls that the story of a man and his wine begins. Deeply attached to his terroir, Jean-Luc Matha (supported by those he likes to call "the elders" but also and above all by his wife), digs his hands into the earth to give birth to an extraordinary vineyard : Domaine Matha. More than a profession, working the land and the vines is a true passion that Jean-Luc transmits daily to connoisseurs as well as to the curious who discover the expression of a unique grape variety, Fer Servadou also known as Mansois.

Jean-Luc Matha was one of the first to promote Fer Servadou, and a major player in the creation of the AOC Marcillac

Domaine Matha, an exceptional Marcillac AOC labeled organic

The properties of the red soil of Aveyron and its dry climate allow the fruity and herbaceous aromas of the Mansois to be revealed, essential criteria complemented by the manual management of the vineyard. Arranged on terraces, the vines evolve under the attentive eye of Jean-Luc Matha who takes the time to "stop, understand and live in the present moment" so that each vintage reflects the richness of the terroir. Time is another important variable to allow the wine to express its perfumes under the action of indigenous yeasts which give a vintage effect to this living wine certified organic since 2016. Take a break to admire the natural spectacle of the overlapping vines, a true colorful theater that transforms over the seasons.

Each year and each bottle is unique with natural aromas obtained without sulfites, honest wines that have nothing to hide.

Domaine Matha, the encounter between a man, a wine and its history

Happy to share with you the secrets of the AOC Marcillac, Jean-Luc Matha invites you to join him on his estate at any time of the year to visit the property and taste this unique wine from the red earth of Aveyron. Red, white or rosé, the wines are also offered for sale in the adjacent shop which reveals innovative aperitifs such as Ratafia, Grabel (dandelion wine) or Rascalou (walnut wine) also produced on the estate.

From the vine to the bottle, Jean-Luc Matha is always present, taking care of the grapes, the vines and the wine at every moment.

So, if you must visit a winemaker in Aveyron, it's definitely Domaine MATHA. And this for several reasons: The first, the only one I called to make an appointment early in the morning because of the extreme heat. The second, the only one who offered us a tasting. The third, a more than warm welcome in his vaulted cellar. The fourth, his original stories told with humor and simplicity. The fifth, his homemade dry sausage and Laguiole cheese served for the tasting. The sixth, a tasting conducted by a man who is passionate about his work and fantastic to boot. And finally, the last one allowed us to pay by credit card. Again, for this wonderful and unforgettable morning encounter. Jocelyne and Frédéric from Alsace

What a particularly moving encounter, with rich discussions about wine and more... Jean-Luc Matha is a warm, extremely welcoming person, passionate about his profession and his products, which he speaks of with love. We discovered the Marcillac appellation and the Fer Servadou grape variety. The estate's wines are, for the most part, primarily drinks: they are magnificent, excellent beverages that combine thirst-quenching qualities (you have to hold back!) and gustatory pleasure, with some having a very welcome, slightly sparkling quality. A relatively reasonable alcohol content (12) and the absence of added sulfites make them particularly digestible. Unusually, the red wine pairs well with quite a few cheeses without the tannins being harsh on the palate. The tasting at home confirmed our opinion from the visit to the winery (apart from the beautiful music, the excellent cheese, and the dry sausage that accompanied the tasting). In short, wines that reflect the winemaker's image: magnificent! A big thank you.
