Visit the small village of Verfeil in Tarn-et-Garonne

Verfeil is located northeast of Saint-Antonin-Noble Val , in Tarn-et-Garonne, on the border between Quercy and Rouergue. It is a small fortified town that is well worth a stop to discover its small heritage and its history ! Dating from the ^13th century , you will come across beautiful stone houses, with parts in traditional half-timbering from the Middle Ages. Verfeil is ideally located for visiting the Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne on one side. Shall we go?

Visit Verfeil, a small fortified town!

Park in the car park in the centre of the village, near the war memorial. Verfeil can be visited in about forty minutes on foot; it is a small, traditional bastide town like those found in Aquitaine and Occitanie. To discover it without missing a thing, I recommend that you bring a map of the town with explanations, which you can pick up at the nearest Tourist Office, for example in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val or Najac.

In the center of the village is also the market hall with its stone pillars, there is no longer a market in Verfeil, apart from occasional and rather summer events. The nearest will be in Najac about ten kilometers away. As its name indicates, Verfeil-sur-Seye (not to be confused with a locality of the same name in Haute-Garonne), is located in the Seye Valley , which then flows into the Aveyron.

The creation of the bastide dates back to the middle of the ^13th century on the initiative of the brother of King Saint Louis, Alphonse de Poitiers , who is also at the origin of other bastides like Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (Gironde) and Eymet (Dordogne). The village passed several times from the hands of Protestants to Catholics, each time destroying part of its heritage. This is evidenced by the current church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, which was rebuilt many times.
