Embark on an adventure: The Via Ferrata of Roc du Gorb in Aveyron!

Do you love adventure ? How about joining me for a walk along a rock face ? From cable to cable, I climbed the Via Ferrata of Roc du Gorb in Aveyron, not far from Najac. Enjoy the scenery, pass above a verdant waterfall, and finish gently, gliding down a 100m long zip line. Sound tempting?

Via ferrata: a fun and sporty activity at the same time

Via ferrata is an outdoor activity, derived from climbing and hiking. It's accessible to everyone, provided they aren't too afraid of heights and are in good physical condition. You can even (depending on the recommendations of each site) share this experience with your family and children. At Roc du Gorb, you'll traverse a beautiful rock face equipped with ladders, walkways, rope bridges, and even a zip line.

This route, which follows the rock face, will allow you to discover a verdant region of this area, with breathtaking views of the Viaur Valley all along the way. Rest assured, you are perfectly safe thanks to specific personal equipment : harness, via ferrata lanyards, carabiners, helmet, and pulley for the zip line.

Adventure in the great outdoors

Once you get over the initial apprehension, enjoy discovering a pristine natural environment. The trail begins atop a majestic rock, then descends along a streambed to a beautiful waterfall. Take the opportunity to enjoy a picnic or snack break to recharge before the zipline, one of the longest in the region... thrills guaranteed! Bonus: you can do it as many times as you like !

It is important to point out that if you encounter any difficulties during the route, the Via Ferrata du Roc de Gorb has 3 escape routes, so you can stop whenever you want... It takes 1 hour 30 minutes to complete the entire route and much longer if you do the zip line 10 times (although you shouldn't overdo a good thing!).

During the climb, the view is so breathtaking you won't know where to look: on one side, the valley carved by the Viaur River, and on the other, the landscape sculpted by the ravages of time. Yet, you still retain a sense of tranquility, thanks to the verdant embrace that surrounds you. My favorite part was the series of suspension bridges : a real-life Fort Boyard, but in nature ! Quick, I need the key! It makes you feel like a big kid again…

The Via Ferrata of Roc du Gorb in Aveyron: some practical information

From the village of Bar, take the road down to the Viaur Valley and turn right towards Cessetière. You will then need to pass the "Le Gourpassou" campsite and continue to the parking area. Once parked, continue on foot for approximately 800 meters following the " via ferrata " signs.

• If you have never or very rarely practiced via ferrata

It is possible to be accompanied by a professional to get started safely and to fully enjoy discovering new sensations. For children, it is recommended that they be at least 12 years old.

• If you have already practiced via ferrata

Access is free and open from January 1st to December 31st. You can rent all the necessary equipment from Mr. Jacques Doucet, who lives in the village of Bar : remember to book a few days before your visit: 05.65.65.73.98 / 06.13.65.04.46

You'll love a sporty holiday in Aveyron ! Via Ferrata isn't the only activity available in Bor-et-Bar, which has the advantage of being located near Najac. Depending on your preferences, you can also:

• Go horseback riding and take a horseback ride in nature;
• Go for a hike on the GR36 for example, or along the Verhne stream;
• Hop on your bike and pedal along the trails around Najac;
• Hitting the ball at the mini-golf course in Saint-André-de-Najac;
• Visit the Moulin le Moulinet mill, which produces walnut oil and stone-ground flour;
• Canoeing along the Viaur river.

And even more so because the natural site of Roc du Gord is of unsuspected richness.
