A bit of history

Vielmur-sur-Agout, whose name means "old wall", was founded in the 10th century. Its history is closely linked to that of its Benedictine abbey. Although the Wars of Religion and the French Revolution left their mark, there are still many vestiges from this period, such as abbey buildings and the church which houses a magnificent carved marble altar.

The charm of a medieval village

The village is divided into two distinct parts : a medieval quarter facing the Agout River and a more contemporary quarter. As you stroll through the cobbled streets of the medieval quarter, you can admire the old houses, porches and covered passages.
