    • Forge de Laguiole: the art of cutlery in the heart of Aubrac

At the summit of the Aubrac plateau, where sky and earth meet, beats the heart of an iconic Aveyron heritage institution : the Forge de Laguiole. More than just a factory, it symbolizes a renaissance. By restoring the art of knife making to its former glory in its village of origin, the company has preserved a strong identity while embracing modernity. This stop is a must for visitors seeking authenticity and excellence.

A free immersion in traditional know-how

The experience offered by the Forge de Laguiole is truly generous. Throughout the year, the factory opens its doors for a free and immersive tour. The workshop is open to the public, allowing visitors to observe the cutlers at work. Between the clatter of the anvils and the aroma of handle shaping, discover the manufacturing process firsthand, alone or with others. It is here that steel becomes a work of art.

The certified excellence of the Laguiole Forge

Choosing a knife from this manufacturer guarantees an exceptional product. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label, the Forge de Laguiole embodies the excellence of "Made in France." Each piece also benefits from the Geographical Indication "Couteau de Laguiole," a prestigious mark that certifies its geographical origin and adherence to traditional methods. This dual recognition assures enthusiasts and collectors of an object steeped in history, crafted with rigorous ethical standards.

Prestigious ambassadors for a local brand

The visit is also a striking architectural experience. The building, designed by renowned designer Philippe Starck, rises with its aluminum blade pointing skyward, boldly blending pastoral tradition with contemporary design. This thirst for innovation is also reflected in the company's prestigious collaborations. From Cyril Lignac to Alain Delon, and including Fanny Ardant and the Millau Viaduct, Forge de Laguiole radiates the spirit of Aveyron far beyond the plateau's borders. The company proves that tradition is a living heritage that constantly reinvents itself.

It was after my first Laguiole knife from Forge de Laguiole was stolen that I asked the same craftsmen if it was possible to add a full bone handle to brass plates and forged springs, as I couldn't afford to pay a fair price for manual guilloché work or a hand-carved bee (I'll make sure to treat myself to one later!). And it was with great pleasure that I learned that this was possible, despite the absence of such an assembly in their catalog. I was carefully listened to and guided by email, from the choice of handle material to the double-letter engraving on the blade. They were truly professional and attentive, and they offered me a final price that, moreover, fit within my budget! Let's make sure to fund this kind of initiative that promotes French craftsmanship and prolongs the history and tradition of this magnificent country. Once again, a huge thank you to the whole team for this magnificent work and the pleasure of owning a new Forge de Laguiole work!
