Château de Saurs, the promise of a tasting of unique wines in historic cellars

Lisle-sur-Tarn
Château de Saurs, the ...

We travel for the wines, but also for the incredible panorama of this magnificent castle built in 1852 which rises above the vines and gardens. Even if the building cannot be visited, still inhabited by Mr. Burrus who manages the estate with a masterly hand, the aging cellar and the tasting cellar are open to the public who then dive into the fascinating world of Gaillac wine. Between history and tasting, the visit to the Château de Saurs is a taste experience rich in emotions.

New “fresh and trendy” ranges to discover at Château de Saurs

Highly confidential at the time, the estate's wines have been opening up to a new market in recent years, becoming more accessible to wine lovers, the curious, and epicureans. Two new collections in particular are delighting the palates of visitors and restaurateurs, expressing the richness of a unique terroir and the work of the château's oenologist: Florent Martin.

  • The “Coquins de Saurs” is a smooth wine that is easy to enjoy with friends, a delicate and fruity vintage available in red, white and rosé.
  • Ça Coule de Saurs ” is a single-varietal range that highlights the very essence of Gaillac, fine and elegant wines with magnificent aromas, gems for restaurants and gastronomy (Braucol, Duras, Syrah, Ondenc, Mauzac, Loin de l'œil).

Presented for tasting in the Château de Saurs cellar, they also attract fine local restaurants, bistro restaurants, gourmet restaurants as well as quality village restaurants delighted to combine southwestern cuisine with one of the best references from Gaillac.

The Château de Saurs cellar, a friendly space open for tastings

If you are captivated by the beauty of the Château de Saurs, built in the 17th century by Eliezer Gineste de Saurs, the great-grandfather of the current owner, you will be charmed by the tasting cellar installed in the original farmhouse restored in 2009. More than a sales area, it is a dynamic living space where the team gathers to discuss the new vintages, but also a welcoming place for visitors to the Châteaux de Saurs. Presentation of the history of the château, sharing the love of a unique terroir exploited organically with a real desire to preserve the environment, explanation of the winemaking process and above all tasting of the estate's wine gems, experience an unforgettable moment of exchange and encounter at the Château de Saurs in Lisle-sur-Tarn.

Don't forget to take home your favorite vintage, the ranges are also available on their online store , in local delicatessens, local wine merchants or organic stores!

An unmissable cellar to discover during a guided tour

Under the château, in the original former stable, completely renovated 2 years ago, lies the ideal place for aging wine: a semi-buried vaulted cellar located in the former hay storage building. Its climatic conditions and mild temperatures make it a privileged place for optimal aging, offering the wines of Château de Saurs a unique development of their aromatic palettes. Open for group visits and on request, it reveals an atypical aesthetic with its stone arcades, perfectly preserving the vintages of the finest fruity nectar of the region. The discovery continues with a stroll in the park and garden, before ending with a shared tasting of some carefully selected wines in the tasting cellar.

Saurs Castle, a park and an art gallery to admire

A visit to the estate has many surprises in store, starting with a sublime view of the greenery and trees. Let yourself be carried away by the fragrant aromas and enjoy your stroll through the heart of an estate steeped in its terroir.

A flowery park ideal for relaxation

Throughout her life, Madame Gineste de Saurs put her love of plants to good use by planting numerous varieties of flowers, trees, and shrubs in the gardens, creating an incredible green setting that resembles a haven of peace. Avenues of two-hundred-year-old umbrella pines, cypress avenues, fruit trees, roses... discover her world across more than 100 hectares of color and fragrance every Thursday between June and August.

An art gallery on the upper floor of the tasting cellar

Continue your visit by discovering a space dedicated to art and local artists, open all year round. Every year, 3 to 4 local artists present the fruits of their labor, including paintings, sculptures, engravings, and pictures. These works are enhanced by a private viewing, where the Château de Saurs wine is most effective. Mr. Burrus, also a lover of art, has collected numerous works on the theme of horses.

Of course, a tasting at the end of the visit is always appreciated when you know the finesse of the vintages produced at Château de Saurs over all these years.
