    • Château de Mayragues, a biodynamic wine estate in the Tarn

Following in the footsteps of their parents who, as pioneers, converted the estate to biodynamics in 1999, Anne and Duncan Geddes have been growing vines and producing quality wines using biodynamic methods since 2015, placing respect for nature and the environment at the heart of their business. Based at Château de Mayragues in Castelnau de Montmiral, one of the most beautiful villages in France, they are ideally located 5 minutes from the village, 10 minutes from Gaillac and 30 minutes from Albi. Come and meet these passionate winegrowers to discover the flavours of the terroir through quality products.

Mayragues Castle, the beautiful story of a Historic Monument in the Tarn

The story begins in 1980 when the Geddes family recovered the ruins of the Château de Mayragues with the aim of promoting this incredible Tarn building. Founded in the 12th century, this old fortified house installed on a rocky spur was then restored and sublimated, preserving its unique architecture with its corbelled patrol path above a stone structure. Open for visits during the European Heritage Days weekend in September each year, the Château de Mayragues is an unmissable address when crossing the Tarn, an estate comprising 12 hectares of vines surrounded by 70 hectares of meadows, fields and groves. Take the time to admire the breathtaking view of the vines and the rolling landscapes, they will leave you breathless.

Château de Mayragues, biodynamic wines and vines in the Tarn

In love with their region and passionate about their profession, Anne and Duncan naturally turned to a production method in accordance with their value, that of respecting nature and the environment. Certified biodynamic by Demeter/Ecocert, the estate offers a beautiful expression of the terroir through quality wines resulting from plant, animal and mineral work. This natural approach helps maintain the life of the soil, at the same time promoting that of the plants. Red, white, rosé, orange, sweet or sparkling, each bottle of wine reflects their commitment, resulting from a 100% manual harvest to pick only the grapes at maturity. The vinification and aging are then done in the cellars according to very specific specifications, before bottling also carried out at the estate. Tasting and purchase, the Château de Mayragues welcomes you all year round to present its quality wines and leaves you amazed by the exterior of the château.

The little extra: The possibility of organizing private events in the heart of the property, and sleeping on site in one of the two guest rooms at Château de Mayragues.

Wonderful hosts, lovely wine, charming rooms and surroundings full of history - Château Mayragues is an experience we would recommend to everyone. We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Château Mayragues! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the most welcoming and warm people we have ever met in our travels. Allan and his wife welcomed us with genuine hospitality and a genuine desire to make our stay special. Allan is Scottish and therefore they all spoke very good English. Which was a great advantage for us as not all of them spoke French. The breakfast was a dream - the best natural yoghurt we have ever tasted, fresh fruit and absolutely heavenly croissants. Every detail was carefully thought out and we felt really taken care of. One of the highlights was when Allan, despite us returning late from dinner, held a wine tasting for us at 10pm. He pointed out with a smile that he doesn't usually do this so late at night, but we are incredibly grateful that he did. The wine was exquisite – so good that we would have liked to take much more home with us. We bought a few bottles and sat outside enjoying the beautiful surroundings until late in the evening. Both the hosts and their children radiated knowledge, passion and warmth, and they made the whole visit an experience we will never forget. The rooms combine a homely atmosphere with attention to detail. The bathroom is modern with a lovely bathtub, while the rest of the room is full of charm and respect for the history of the building. We slept three in the room, and even the extra bed – which served as a sofa during the day – was very comfortable to sleep in. The entire surrounding area is sheltered and cared for with great awareness and respect for historical details, which gives the place a unique and authentic atmosphere. We also really appreciated that we were able to check in early when we arrived. It was little things like this that made us feel like valued guests from start to finish. The only challenge during our stay was the intense heat. This is of course no one's fault, but the hosts found solutions - and as we were the only guests on the last night, we were told to open all the windows and doors to air out, which helped immensely. Château Mayragues is simply charming - with beautiful surroundings, exquisite wine, a lovely host and comfortable rooms. We will recommend this place to all our friends, and we are already dreaming of coming back. 10 out of 10 from us! ❤️🍷

Highly recommend a visit to Chateau de Mayragues, not only for the sheer beauty of the place but for a comprehensive introduction to fine and natural wines. In the bright new tasting space overlooking the vines, Duncan explains everything in a simple and captivating way - from biodynamic practices in the vineyard and the winery to the daily truth of Chateau life.- a memorable experience for both the mind and palate !
