    • The Château de Mauriac, a must-see historic building in the Tarn

Keep your eyes peeled for the Château fort de Mauriac, which rises in the heart of the Gaillac vineyards, offering you a magnificent spectacle of stone and nature. Located between the towns of Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel, and Gaillac, it opens its doors from April 15 to November 15, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., for an immersive guided tour that will delight young and old alike.

Château de Mauriac, a story of passion that spans generations

Founded in 1214 by the Templar Guiriaudus de Mauriaco (which explains the name Mauriac), the castle was restored over many years by its owner, the painter Bernard Bistes and his family, who fell in love with this Historic Monument listed in the Michelin Green Guide. Known until the 17th century as a Pastelier castle, it was the place where pastel was cultivated to dye clothes blue. All this history as well as its rebirth and renovation are presented during a one-hour guided tour within the castle grounds, allowing you to discover the life of the time, but also that of the Bistes family who still live there. Fully furnished, the Château de Mauriac is designated as one of the 50 most beautiful private residences in France and is one of the must-see visits in the Tarn.

Château de Mauriac, a unique and magical place to stay in the Tarn

Experience a special moment in the heart of a magnificent renovated castle. The 5 guest rooms, the suite and the apartment offer you a timeless experience, prestigious rentals where the lords of yesteryear stayed. The careful decoration and the period four-poster bed give an undeniable cachet to these spaces with a surface area of 40 to 120 m2, with a breathtaking view of the park. The Château de Mauriac can also be privatized to organize your private events with the possibility of receiving up to 350 guests. Weddings, birthdays, bachelor parties or seminars, take advantage of the many spaces of the property to experience an unforgettable and friendly moment in the Tarn.

Our host Emmanuel welcomed us with a big smile and happily showed us around the Chateau with great pride of place. And no wonder: it's a masterpiece of style and decoration. Be sure to take the guided tours at 3:00 or 4:00. The Chateau was built in begun in 1214 as a Templar fort. It fell into disrepair in the 18th century and in 1960 the new owner began a 50-year process of complete renovation. He was a painter and an artist and he lovingly and lavishly decorated every room including the ceiling and walls. It's one of the most special places we've ever stayed - don't miss it if you're in the area. Five stars!
