    • The sumptuous Mauriac fortified castle dates from the 13th century. It is a Historic Monument, listed in the Michelin Green Guide and which offers immersive tours in its History, Heritage and Painting. It is one of the most beautiful residences in France. This Castle was restored thanks to its owner, the painter Bernard BISTES (1941-2020) and his family, who have lived there for nearly 60 years and devote a lot of time to its revival, its enhancement and its maintenance. Organized in association, they have at heart to allow this castle, which was the residence and the muse of the painter, to come back to life.

Guided tours at Castle of Mauriac take place every day from 3pm to 6pm from April 15th to November 15th. They last 1 hour; They take place on Sundays only from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the rest of the year. Sometimes the castle is privatized for weddings (call ahead to ensure that Saturday is available for a visit). Located in the Tarn, the Castle of Mauriac is at the crossroads between Albi, Gaillac and Cordes-sur-Ciel. Built by order of a Templar, it is today in the middle of the vines of Gaillac wine.

The visit is intimate and warm, it includes the history of the Castle but also of the family who appropriated it, embellished the estate, recreated the garden (3000m2), it is the work of a lifetime! It is a unique and magical place that is worth the detour.

The Castle also offers period guest rooms, with different styles. A timeless experience for an intimate and friendly moment, where you will be received as a friend. It is also possible to privatize the Castle for events.

Magnificent. The family have been restoring this grand “castle” for 2 generations and the work is ongoing. History. The owner is a real character full of passion. As good as it gets for historical places to stay.

Good tour of the chateau, the tour guide was friendly, informative and made a special effort to speak English! The chateau was small but had many interesting art and features, plus spectacular views from the new viewing point at the top!!
