    • Château Peyrelade, a little medieval gem to discover in Aveyron

Experience a true journey through time in the charming village of Rivière-sur-Tarn, which reveals a magnificent 12th-century medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop. Open for visits between April and October, it has a whole story to tell you, and some surprises in store for you to enjoy a wonderful family day out.

The most important medieval fortress of Rouergue in the Middle Ages

This historic building has known hours of glory, thanks to its ideal position above the valley and the entrance to the Tarn Gorges. Built from the 12th century until the 16th century, it belonged to the Ahenric family before becoming the possession of different lords over time, and even being requisitioned by roaders and the English. After centuries of abandonment, Château Peyrelade has been enhanced by a meticulous renovation that has lasted for more than 40 years, an opportunity to discover and reveal the secrets preciously preserved by the stones during all these years. The self-guided or guided tour is a good way to dive back into the past to discover the history of this historic castle and admire its atypical architecture on a route scripted with models, interpretation tables and a video. The highlight of the show is offered on the top of the rock which reveals a breathtaking view of the valley.

Château Peyrelade, a superb family outing in Aveyron

You can spend the day in Rivière-sur-Tarn with many activities organized in the summer on this special site. On Wednesdays from mid-July to the end of August, children take the place of kings and knights around activities such as treasure hunts, manual workshops, a mysterious investigation or the telling of tales imbued with magic. Picnic tables are at your disposal as well as a shop to bring back a souvenir. Each year, the Château de Peyrelade regains its former grandeur during the Medieval Summer Days every Sunday and Monday from mid-July to the end of August, the opportunity to feast, to war and to thrill with the knights! Exhibitions of weapons, armor and details of the daily life of the time are also installed to discover to the sound of ambient music.

Enjoy your visit to Château Peyrelade!

Info: The events and visits to the castle are organized by the ACALP association of Peyrelade
