The Rigole of the Black Mountain is a canal, built in the 17th century. It was Vauban who was the designer of a vaulted tunnel, very innovative for its time. The “Vauban vault” covers part of the canal. In the 1950s, this channel was used to supply the Canal du Midi. Indeed, the mountain is criss-crossed by streams and the water is very abundant there. The channel crosses the beautiful forests of the Montagne Noire from Lacombe to Cammazes.
A landscaped path runs along the channel. It is perfect for family outings, on foot or by bike, but also with strollers. During the winter, the forest cover is quite protective. While in summer, the canal will bring you freshness. It is therefore a very pleasant walk in all seasons.
Nearby, do not miss a visit to the Cathar Castle of Saissac. It is little known despite its age and its beauty, but nevertheless deserves to dwell on it.
