Musée des Battages A unique cultural institution

The Musée des Battages in Murat sur Vèbre is a unique cultural institution of its kind, located in the small town of Murat sur Vèbre, in the heart of the Tarn department, in the heart of the Haut Languedoc regional park. This museum is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of agricultural techniques and tools formerly used for threshing cereals.

Founded in the 1990s, it is part of an approach to promoting the region's rural and agricultural heritage.

Lucien CROS, a passionate volunteer, will show you this hangar housing more than 130 tractors and agricultural machines, some of which are unique.

Cereal threshing, a crucial step in the wheat production cycle, consisted of separating the grains from the straw. This operation, which has evolved over the centuries, is retraced in detail at the museum.

Visitors can discover a vast collection of threshing machines and tractors, each as rare as the last and all in working order. Many brands are present there such as: Porsche, Renault, Vendeuvre, Bolinder Munktel, Société Française de Vierzon, Percheron, Lanz Bulldog, Diesel, Massey Fergusson echoing the history and evolution of work in the fields.

Demonstrations, often organized during heritage days or local festivals, offer an immersive dive into the region's agricultural past.

Children and adults can see century-old machines and understand all the complexity and arduousness of agricultural work in the past.

The Threshing Committee is organizing the following events in 2024:

• Threshing Festival on Sunday August 11
• Concert in the Murat church on October 20 at 2:30 p.m. for the League Against Cancer (23 musicians and singers present)
• Traditional Os meal on December 15 in the "Little Train" room
