    • The Honey Museum

High place of tourism in Midi-Pyrénées, the Honey Museum is located in Gramont, in the heart of the Lomagne region, a small region part of Gascony. It is a veritable repository of techniques and traditions related to honey, hive products, beekeeping and bees. Traditions from French regions, but also from different cultures and practices around the world.

You will need a minimum of one hour to browse the 700 square meters of exhibits. Since opening to the public in 1994, the collections of the Honey Museum have continued to grow to make it today one of the most complete museums in the world on the theme of beekeeping: It is a real conservatory traditions and skills.

All the ancient and traditional hives of the regions of France are represented here, as well as the accessories relating to the breeding of bees or the production of honey (you will find here the inventory of the museum's collections). Glass hives allow you to see the bees working live and, during the summer season, you may be lucky enough to observe the queen laying eggs.

You will tour the world of bees in the large room where the international exhibition of hives is presented, accompanied by photographic comments and objects brought back by Chantal and Emile Molès during their many beekeeping trips.

You will also discover an exhibition on wax and its various uses: candles, embossed wax, encaustic, etc… The techniques of beekeeping and the manufacture of honey-based products will have no more secrets for you after the 20-minute film and the guide's explanations.

Brilliant morning out. We were there for almost 2 hrs. They have a great audio tour in English and it takes you through the history not only of bees but of honey collecting etc. They have a huge range of historic and modern hives from around the world and show you a detailed video on the lives of the bees, gathering honey and hive maintaining, and how they make their honey sweets. The owner was very welcoming, spoke very good English and was clearly passionate about their work. Boutique was also nice and reasonably priced.

I had a look around the museum but unfortunately couldn’t take honey on my flight so couldn’t buy any. The museum covers beekeeping in different countries and different periods.

Worth a stop to learn about the honey available in the area. Tastings of over a dozen types was an educational experience as well as satisfying to the sweet tooth. Friendly owner, friendly dogs.
