Millau is best known for its Viaduct, but its medieval historic center is definitely worth a visit. It is punctuated with small natural bubbles, conducive to relaxation and walking. It stretches along the banks of the Tarn and a greenway borders the other bank to easily reach it by bike. Aquatic leisure and nautical sports bases allow you to take full advantage of the pleasures of the river. Let's go for a visit of Millau on foot or by bike.

Take a walk in the historic center of Millau

Millau is classified as a "Town of Art and History". It has succeeded in preserving historical sites throughout the ages since prehistoric times. The unmissable monuments of Millau to see during your walk are:

  • The medieval houses, notably rue de la Capelle.
  • Le Beffroi, near the Tourist Office.
  • The Notre-Dame de l'Espinasse church and its monumental fresco.
  • The Pont Vieux and its old mill.

    Visit the museums of Millau

    The museums of Millau trace this rich history, which begins in prehistory in the Causses. Chronologically, we recommend the following sites:

    • The Graufesenque archaeological site.
    • The Museum of Millau and the Grands Causses on local history, in the former private mansion of Pégayrolles.
    • The exhibition on the construction of this extraordinary bridge, on the Millau Viaduct area.

      Millau is a dynamic and forward-looking city, while remaining rooted in its craft tradition. You will find workshops and factories, art and designer boutiques, and shops of all kinds. Here are our good addresses:

      After a good walk through the city, the Millavois parks and gardens offer you a well-deserved rest:

        Pedal on the lanes and cycle paths

        The city of Millau is implementing initiatives to facilitate soft mobility, in particular thanks to the pedestrianization of the city center during the summer. Cycle routes have been laid out to reach the city center along the banks of the Tarn:

        • The Promenade des Berges du Tarn is a 4 km greenway, shaded and very pleasant.
        • The Trace Verte du Viaduc is a 16 km route, starting from Millau.
        • The Grande Traversée du Massif Central (GTMC) (fr) is a great route for mountain biking, which starts from Millau and takes you from Larzac to the Mediterranean. In the Tarn, you take it from Millau to La Couvertoirade.

          Hike in the natural areas around Millau

          Millau is located in the heart of the Causses, on the edge of the Plateau du Lévézou, and crossed by the river Tarn. It is an exceptional natural environment and a favorite site for hikers. All these natural areas are located south of Millau and the Tarn:

            The right bank of the Tarn, on the outskirts of Millau, has been equipped with leisure and sports centres, allowing you to enjoy the pleasures of water, near the town centre:

            • The Maladrerie leisure park and its Aquavagues park, for white water sports.
            • Lou Pitchou land on the island of Maladrerie, a space dedicated to the youngest.
            • Plage du Gourd de Bade is a small beach in lush greenery.
            • The Roc et Canyon sports leisure base, near the Pont de Cureplat, offers all kinds of nature sports, such as canoeing, canyoning, via ferrata, bungee jumping...
