Lauzerte sublime bastide

The Count of Toulouse had a castelnau built on the hill. Gradually, people settled there, the city expanded and grew stronger. Essentially commercial, it becomes prosperous and enriched. Today, the houses built around the Place de la Cornière and the Saint Barthélémy church bear witness to this.

The good idea Are you a foodie and gourmet? Discover the Truffle du Quercy, a delicacy of the region not to be missed from December to the end of February.

On your way there, you will fall under the spell of this typically medieval square full of character. Note the harmony between the different houses and the whiteness of the stone. Linger on this square, taking the opportunity to take a lunch break or simply to drink a coffee. You will feel the tranquility and serenity specific to this place once so lively, because commercial. Indeed, the arcades symbolize the prosperity of the last centuries when the traders had their shop on the ground floor and their accommodation upstairs.

The good idea Visit Roquecor just a 15 minute drive away, another pretty village to explore.

The paths have been recognized since 1988 by UNESCO and included on the World Heritage List. Moreover, since 2004, the Council of Europe has recognized them as the “Major Cultural Route of the Council of Europe”. Thus, during your walk in their alleys of Lauzerte, you will not be surprised to come across pilgrims. These are easily identifiable by their outfit and bundle, but also by the scallop shell attached to their backpack.

From the Place des Cornières, do not hesitate to go to the Jardin du Pèlerin Alain Chauve. This atypical garden, located in the heart of the Middle Ages, is a must.
