The Tarn-et-Garonne has many geographical advantages. Between its rivers, the Tarn and the Aveyron , its large river valleys , its karst plateaus , called “causses”, and its Gascony slopes , this department offers a great diversity of breathtaking landscapes . A green setting which gives a certain charm to these castal villages and towns, called " castelnaux ", due to their proximity to medieval castles . But also for these fortified bastides which have settled around its capital, Montauban.

Montricoux

In between two rivers , just 30 minutes from Montauban , Montricoux is a Templar village with an interesting medieval heritage . You stroll through magnificent alleys , along half-timbered houses . Some surprises await you: a dungeon of the 13th century ramparts, a pretty church with adjoining tower. Its castle now houses a museum , dedicated to the painter Marcel Lenoir.

We let you discover this anecdote of history in the article on the village . The old castle, or rather that of Brunhilde, a Visigoth princess, now met the new castle of the 15th century. Both castles can be visited! But we can go even further back to Bruniquel's past, his cave has become famous for its Neanderthal remains . Caylus

Caylus, like all medieval bastides , is centered around its market hall . Strolling through its straight streets, you will come across a listed church , an atypical “ wolf house ”, a square tower and turrets, a royal castle and the wall of this fortified enclosure . A well-preserved heritage that really deserves a visit. You will also find the Gorges de l'Aveyron ecomuseum there .
