Belcastel
Discover the beautifu ...

Hidden in the valley of Aveyron at 24km from Rodez, you will not resist the charm of Belcastel and its majestic castle. This village is a treasure nestled in the middle of the greenery and witness a glorious medieval past that deserves its place in "Les plus beaux villages de France".

A picturesque village in the heart of an exceptional site

A small road down the valley will take you to a car park at the gate of the village. You have to pay to park , but it helps to offer visitors a very attractive village. It is rare to discover a medieval village as well preserved!

Upon entering the village is a gorgeous landscape that awaits you. You can ask for a map of the village at the tourist office at the entrance on your left.

Discovering the village, it is irresistible to take a few steps on the old bridge of the fifteenth century that allows you to cross the Aveyron to reach the Church of St. Madeleine.

Go back in time to the Middle Ages crossing the drawbridge of Belcastel Castle

The crossing of the drawbridge

This castle was built 1000 years ago and renovated by a famous architect named Fernand Pouillon in 1973 to restore the castle's former glory. Today it is a private residence, but fortunately for us, the owners have opened to the public a large part of the building.

Compare yourself to knight armor ...

It now houses a large collection of medieval weapons and you will find in every corner of the castle many contemporary works of art.

It's very curious to find yourself at the corner of a staircase facing a pink baby (which is actually a bronze sculpture of the artist Pierre Matter called "Sleeping Diabolo"), or to cross a room full of sculptures made by Crystal Wagner.

The visit of this castle is an unforgettable experience and the panoramic view of the village of Belcastel is breathtaking.

And to enjoy it longer?

At the heart of the village is the municipal campsite. It's a pleasure to pitch your tent or park your motorhome at the edge of the Aveyron and enjoy the simple pleasure of dreaming at the water's edge.
